I agree, this is great; very elegant in its own way, and a really well-designed example of what is hopefully the evolving Web ethos. Does it mean that graphic designers, with their deluded reliance on "white space," "composition" and ""clear hierarchy" are winning the war against usability experts? http://www.useit.com/

Does anyone know, though, why it's only optimized for I.E. and Chrome?

The prototype was only optimized for IE and Chrome to be able to get the project done on time / budget. The design supports the full array of browsers / platforms.
