Good evening everyone,
Please accept my apologies for not posting anything to class last night.
After some experimenting I discovered that cigarettes no longer burn, they need to actually be smoked for the flame to burn the paper, tobacco and other substances packed into a cigarette. Quite a clever safety device on a product so clearly detrimental to your health. The irony runs deep and comical but it also smashes my original concept of the burning cigarette flower (Ignus Phillipi Morrisi in Latin) exploding into bloom and dying out into so much ash, into just that, ash.
And if I'm going to be totally honest, the X-acto blade flower looked WAYY cooler than I could have gotten my cigarette flower to look, and in my opinion, and would be a much stronger visual message. To the left, you'll see what would have been the first image of the original concept.
So I've thought of another clever concept, or what passes for it with me, which like most great ideas could have also been ripped from the pages of my 4 year old daughter' sketch book. All you've got here is a sketch, but it's a complete concept.
I'd keep the yellow paper as a background. I feel like the focus needs to be on my cancer giving conceptual transformation. If you would please leave your comments, suggestions and donations in the comment section for this post, I would thank you.
Again, please accept my apologies for not being prepared last class.

As soon as I saw your sketch, I laughed. What a great idea! I could immediately see this in some sort of short film. The only suggestion is you may need a fifth frame. Not anything after your fourth jsut soemthing before your first. Maybe showing the tobacco going into the cigarette like a caterpillar to allow the viewers to know that the single shot is representing a cacoon (spelling?).. but great idea!
I still like the cigarette flower (and yellow background), but it looks like you've got another great idea brewing! Do you think you'll keep with the yellow or use a different background color? Can't wait to see how it turns out in the photos.
Great visual, but just so I'm clear, is the cancer flying away, or spreading? I'm getting the impression someone was just made cancer free. Can't wait to see it.
I dont think interpretation means much with this project, I'm strictly focused on the task of transforming the idea of cigarette and if you see cancer flying away, Im ok with that.
I really like the sketch, although the flower is looking awesome on the yellow background. I keep thinking of how cancer metastasizes, and seeing the flower grow additional petals or branches to show that. But thats just me, and I've been off-target for most of this assignment.
very cool idea...can't wait to see it transform. Pun intended.
