Re: Portfolios and Plans

What kind of designer do you want to be, or what do you want to do with this degree? Print, web, user-experience, book, magazine, all of the above? Why?

I want to be a designer who works in print and web design when I first start out, then I think I would like to be an art director. I think that being versatile in our field is an amazing benefit and that learning both print and web will help me to be the best designer I can be.

What kind of workplace do you want, ideally? Freelance, small shop, big agency? Why? How will you search for jobs?

Ideally, I would love to work in a small agency. I would like the opportunity to learn from other working professionals before I start any freelancing opportunities. I purchased a book that was mentioned in class Starting your Career as a Graphic Designer by Michael Fleishman

For those of who that have portfolios right now, did you build you own site or use a template like BÄ“hance? Or pinterest? Can anyone share links to great portfolios (yours or someone else's?)

I have a portfolio but it’s not quite complete. When I was looking at trying to start a portfolio I looked at tons of examples and used different elements from other peoples design. I used Wordpress when I started to build my site. Here are some great portfolios.
