Re: Getting out of your comfort zone

I don't trust anyone who doesn't doubt their abilities from time to time. Self-doubt indicates that you're thinking about your work. And it forces you to push and challenge yourself. But you also can't let self-doubt paralyze you.

When I start to doubt my ability, I force myself to keep working. Eventually, I do something (even something small) that boosts my confidence back up.

Comfort zones...My comfort zone is a little odd to begin with. My aesthetic tends toward more the unconventional and often DIYed. Alternately, I also can go pretty minimal. I guess middle-of-the-road stuff is outside my comfort zone. Working for clients like nursing homes or something would probably be a big challenge for me, and would probably leave lots of room for self-doubt.

I totally think you should go for the illustration if it fits your concept and vision. (Of course, I am notorious for doing lots of hands-on work for my designs. I'm currently building shadow boxes that I'll need to photograph to make the posters. So...)
