To be honest, through this program I've become less doubtful of my abilities. With every project I feel like I've checked off my "I can do this and now I can do this for others" list. There are so many resources these days that its close to impossible to not find someone who's willing to help you at least get the info you need.
It's all about short term goals. For each project break it down by simple tasks:
Can I find out info on the topic?
Where and when will I go to seek this info?
So I want to draw…what can I trace? what can I freehand? Can someone help me with drawing things I can't accomplish in the time allotted?
The bigger picture is usually more overwhelming, which is when the doubt creeps in.
What I doubt is the time I have to get these tasks done. My problem is simply prioritizing overlapping task, time management, and discipline (hint, hint possible future discussion)
2. Have you pushed yourself out of your design comfort level?
I think I do this with each task. I'm not even sure if I have a comfort level since I'm not sure of my design style. I am interested in lettering and plan to dive more into this trend after I'm done with this program. At the moment I have some calligraphy books that I have yet to crack open.
4. Should I keep pushing myself to try illustrating for this project? or should I wait to try when there is no due date or dealings involved?
I say keep trying unless you explore other options that can deliver the message better. Illustration does not have to be extremely difficult or perfect. You just have to practice and there's no better time than now.
If I learned anything from words and images last semester, its to not focus too much on the grade, the due date, and the end result. I'm simply here to learn by doing.
