Design Philosophy

Hi, all!

My train got in at 2 a.m. last night, so I'm writing this morning from a hotel in good ol' Lincoln, Nebraska. We are headed to Seward today, a town of 6,000 where I attended college.

Anywho, I thought I'd bring up a topic that many of you might hate me for, because it's a hard one: what's your design philosophy?

I mentioned a couple of posts ago that I am very into the concept of storytelling, and I think that's how I approach all of my design: what story am I telling?

In my type class, Jeanne gave us some quotes from a designer (don't know who, sorry…she didn't have a class sheet for us that night) who said that design is all about making relationships, meaning between the things on the page and the concepts you're trying to convey, which sometimes seem like disparate things.

So, what's your design philosophy? Or, more simply put, what's the point of design, as you do it?

Here's some more examples of different design philosophies, if you need some inspiration.

Cheers!
