RE: Portfolio and Plans

The wonderful 5 Guys logo.... projects like that in my first few semesters really solidified my reasons for joining this program. I had so much fun with that one.

Coming into this discussion, I assumed that everyone would have the same aspects as me... moving to New York City, work at a big agency and getting my ass kicked by Don Draper while drinking scotch at 9:00 in the morning. It was very nice to see the variety in everyone's answers. Maybe my expectations are too high, but I am looking to start out at an entry level position at either an advertising agency or magazine company. I really want to learn about the different aspects of a company and to do so, I believe the best way is to start at the bottom and work your way to the top. So far throughout pursuing my Masters in this program, I want to explore web design and magazine layout the most, but I would like to learn about the industry.

Which of course leads into the second question: workplace. I am looking to start out as a small agency to get some experience, but eventually I want to break into a big agency. I think the best way to find a job in this industry is going to be a lot of building connections. Of course, I will need to break out of my shell, but I think having a portfolio and strong connections will get me in the right direction towards my dream job.

I am really hopeful that at some point in this program I will be able to develop my portfolio because I currently don't have anything beyond what I had used for my interview for this program.
