Re: Honing Your Skills

As someone who is not yet in her field, honing my skills has been difficult to say the least. Granted, being in this program has helped TENFOLD, yet I still feel like I have to finagle time for myself and what I do. That being said, on to the questions...

1. What ways are you furthering your skills in your spare time?
Research has been big for me--whenever I come across something that I like, I find my way in a "research black hole," Googling, clicking, typing as I narrow down on what is "Brittany" enough. One of my biggest inspirations is Pinterest (talk about blackhole). Pinterest is home to EVERYTHING and with the new search feature, narrowing down is made much easier.

2. How has this benefit you as a designer?
Being able to see the ideas of others has helped me tremendously as a designer. As Katie stated in class recently "there are no new ideas, only new depictions." I couldn't agree more. Pinning allows me to make note of what I enjoy and use it for inspiration in the future.

3. Are there any sites you visit that help you sharpen your skills and techniques?
--see Pinterest--

4. Any secret cures for the common cold? :)
OJ, a good decongestant, Halls, Kleenex with aloe vera, a blanket and SVU repeats :)
