Re: Brand Identity

Who do you know that has a strong brand identity?
Disney has a mega strong brand identity and they fight really hard to keep it that way. Even though there are millions of products, movies, destinations, etc––we all associate the brand with wholesome family entertainment. They work overtime trying to keep their image pure.

Do you know anyone or anything that has failed to create a strong brand identity?
The yahoo brand identity was the first thing that came to my mind. It was a huge conversation in the design and business communities. The logo redesign was developed by the company's CEO, in-house branding group and product designers––reportedly in ONE WEEKEND. Updating a logo for a 10 billion dollar company in one weekend! Needless to say,  the design was not received well and it didn't help business at all.

Do you think consumers even realize why they are attracted to someone or something with a strong brand identity?
Yes and No. I think consumers are attracted to brands that are consistent and look nice. But at the same time, I think that attraction happens on a subconscious level that they don't understand. A lot of people don't know why they prefer Target over Walmart or Starbucks over Dunkin Donuts.
