Re: Name That Film Movement

Awrk! So many cinema movements, and the only one I really grok is German Expressionism. So what do you think about these:

I'll even give you the English-language titles: High Tension, Martyrs, Them and Inside. What movement do you think they fall under?
a) Neo Gothic
b) New French Extremity
c) French New Wave
d) Remodernist

I vote for "C" French New Wave. This is a blind guess.

I feel like I should know this since I spent at least two ours examining different film genres last night. But sadly it has all already jumbled in my head. So I am going to take a wild guess and say D. Remodernist. (Don't laugh if I am totally off base.

Great posters... New French Extremity?

These all have that new-horror style thing going on I talked about in my original post... except for the first one. Haute Tension definitely reminds me of the old Wes Craven Nightmare on Elm Street posters. It's seems rare anymore that you see illustrations instead of photography in horror posters, so I really like that.

Ever seen Ti West's movies? He's a young director with a penchant for early late 70s, early 80s aesthetics. He made House of the Devil in 2009, but it totally looks and sounds like 1982:

I'm going with New French Extremity too. Two of the choices have the word french in them and these don't seem New Wave to me....not that I know what I'm talking about.
