Up until this year, I never really had a mentor in design. My cousin who owns her own freelance business always inspired me, but after starting school I know I want to go beyond what she's accomplished (she's part time and a stay at home mom so she doesn't do as much design work).
Once I started at Stanley Black & Decker, I found the Director of Consumer Experience, Tracy Myers, to be a good person to aspire to be. Tracy is the director of my group and oversees all graphics that go out: including but not limited to Black + Decker, Porter Cable, Dewalt, and Bostitch. Her work ethic and professional mannerism is quite amazing. I've never seen her overwhelmed or frazzled.
Another person that is an inspiration to me is David Airey. He is a freelance graphic designer from Northern Ireland. I've read two of his books: Logo Design Love and Work for Money, Design for Love. He also has a blog that I am subscribed to. I think the reason I gravitated towards him versus the millions of other designers was his business oriented style. I enjoy learning the ins and outs of freelancing because I have a business background.
