A few I like:
* The Elements of Typographic Style
by Robert Bringhurst
* Stop Stealing Sheep & Find Out How Type Works
by Erik Spiekermann & E.M Ginger
* Graphic Design: The New Basics
by Ellen Lupton & Jennifer Cole Phillips
I have Bringhurst's book, but I find it mind numbing to try to read it. I think I'm the only one because it is on everyone's list.
Lupton is just amazing.
