Re: Eight Worst Fonts in the World

I agree with that entire list. I find Eco Font hilarious. I used to be amused when I would spot Papyrus around the world. Now it’s just plain irritating. Like any typeface, there is a proper time to use Papyrus (although I’m struggling to figure out when the right time to use that awful Gill Sans Light Shadowed might be). The irritating part is that no one can seem to figure out when that time is. In fact, it seems like people use Papyrus in the worst possible ways. I used to be one of those people who would spot it and send my sighting right along to sites like papyrus everywhere or papyrus watchers. That used to be kind of fun. Not anymore.

On the first day of my internship, I was asked to grab a binder. I asked the girl next to me where I might find said binder and she showed me to the mailroom, where there are cabinets filled with supplies. I noticed that each cabinet was labeled in 72 pt. Papyrus. I pointed to one of the labels, laughed out loud and then said, “That’s funny”, thinking that this was some kind of inside office joke. The girl turned and said, “Actually, it’s not a joke”,nodded over to the 75 year-old receptionist and continued to say, “Marge labeled everything, she says it makes it easier to find things". And that’s when I realized that you just can’t beat it.
