I was really excited about Baltimore Print Studios when it first opened but have yet to try their facilities. I did a lot of screen printing for a project a few semesters ago. It was 30˚, windy and wet, as I was spraying out a screen with a garden hose. I realized the importance of working with proper equipment. As far as getting my hands dirty I prefer a good ol' pencil and sketchbook or painting with acrylics. So much easier to clean up and a lot cheaper.
Right next door to Baltimore Print Studios is The Windup Space which hosts Dr. Sketchy's once every couple of weeks. Dr. Sketchy's is hosted in cities around the world and bills itself as "a cocktail of dames, drawing and drinking." It's a fun way to master your figure drawing or just get wasted. Check out their website to learn more.
I'd also like to recommend Make Magazine. I like reading it at the bookstore although I've never attempted any of their projects. But they at least got me believing I can put stuff together that would otherwise seem impossible. Anyway if anyone's interested here's their site.
