Something to consider is allowing your work to speak for itself by designing a very clean, plain portfolio site that really puts your work on display. That's a great blog for inspiration and I love that they update it frequently. Lately, I've been checking out typo/graphic posters for inspiration. It's neat to see what other designers think about certain fonts. I especially love the explanation of the 2012 Headline font, I remember seeing the logo and remembering how awful it was. I never realized the advertisements leading up to the event used this font as well. That font is truly awful, and London had to deal with it for a whole year before the Olympics.

Its modern and clean, which I love. I tend to use Garamond too a lot. Its a really nice serif. Optima annoys me. I went to the Baltimore print studio when they first open last year. They were hosting the paper show. I had a chance to make a small poster on their presses. Every month I get their newsletter and by the time I decide to take one of their workshop, they are always sold out. 
Like Anthony I also check out the plaza classes, I haven't taking one yet but I'm planning on doing it pretty soon.
